Sir Run Run Shaw Heart Center was established in 1989 due to increasing prevalence of heart disease in Hong Kong. It was amongst the first private hospitals with cardiac catheterization facilities.

Over the past two decades, the Center has continued to evolve and upgrade its facilities. It is unique in having a dual source CT within the department for diagnosis of heart disease. The two Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories are equipped with the latest "state of the art" flat-panel biplane X-ray system.



Diagnostic angiograms and interventional procedures such as coronary and peripheral angioplasty, stenting, device implantation, electrophysiology study and catheter ablation are performed regularly in the Catheter Laboratories. Over the past 20 years, about 20,000 operations have been performed. With the support of about twenty cardiologists, it is currently one of the busiest heart center in Hong Kong.
