The laboratory is under the supervision of four full time specialists in pathology and it provides quality-oriented and patient-centered services in all branches of laboratory medicine for both inpatients and outpatients of the Hospital. Through joining authoritative external assurance and accreditation programs, we ensure the provision of accurate and precise test results. Apart from 24 hours services in general laboratory tests in clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology and microbiology, the laboratory also offers 13C Urea Breath Test (UBT) for Helicobacter pylori, a wide spectrum of tests for tumor markers and for allergen detection. Fine needle aspiration service, liquid based cytology and HPV typing on liquid based gynecological cytological specimens are also available in addition to intra-operative frozen section diagnosis, sentinel lymph node examination and general histopathology/ cytology services. These are supported by the availability of specialized in-house techniques including immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry and in-situ hybridization. Our Molecular bench provides tests for Hepatitis B, tuberculosis and venereal diseases. Molecular detection (RT-PCR) for respiratory tract virus has also been launched as an in house test. This technically more advanced test can detect and distinguish 18 different common strains of upper respiratory tract viruses, including Influenza A.
